The Energy & Chemicals Industry Group (E&C IG) represents Singapore-based companies involved in or supporting the oil, gas, and chemicals manufacturing sectors. Originally formed in 2006 as the Oil & Gas and Related Industries group, it was rebranded to reflect the broader energy and chemicals landscape.

Objectives:

  • To maintain and enhance the reputation of the Oil & Gas Community in Singapore, and to ensure that oil & gas and related products of the highest quality be readily available.
  • To co-operate with the Government of Singapore, and public bodies in Singapore in furtherance of the economic development and prosperity of Singapore with particular reference to the promotion of investment and the advancement of the oil, gas and related industries.

  • To promote and facilitate the oil & gas and related industry in Singapore and between Singapore and foreign countries, and the interests of persons engaged in such industry, and

  • To collect, collate and disseminate statistics and other information relating to the oil & gas and related industries.

  • To promote and constructively comment on legislative or other measures affecting the oil & gas and related industry.

The Food & Beverage Industry Group (FB IG) was one of the earliest Industry Groups formed during the early days of the Singapore Manufacturers’ Association (SMA). For many decades, the FB IG acts as the representative voice of the Food & Beverages manufacturing and services industries on issues where collective representation is effective and desirable.

The FB IG has always served its role as the representative body for SMF’s members with regard to the critical issues faced by the FB industries. Feedback and research are presented to relevant government authorities and other associations for documentation and resolution.

The FB IG is also active in promoting the Singapore F&B manufacturing and services industries, both at home and aboard, through trade missions and fairs, and through organising networking meetings.

Objectives:

  • To be the representative voice of the Food and Beverage industry, its suppliers and customers on issues where collective representation is effective and desirable.

  • To promote trade and business information to local and foreign business communities.

  • To promote business networking opportunities by organizing meetings with visiting foreign delegations.

Life Sciences Industry Group (LSIG) represents the pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors. It comprises two sub-groups, Singapore Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Council (SPMC) and Singapore Pharmaceutical Trade Organisation (SPTO). The group was established to maintain and enhance the reputation and credibility of the pharmaceutical industry in Singapore. Members from SPTO and SPMC meet regularly with the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) to discuss the latest regulatory landscape in the region as well as challenges faced by local industry.

In early 2020, both Singapore Pharmaceutical Manufacturer’s Council (SPMC) and Singapore Pharmaceutical Trade Organisation (SPTO) has been merged into Life Sciences Industry Group (LSIG).
In addition to many local generic pharmaceutical manufacturers and traders, 8 of the world’s 10 biggest pharmaceutical firms also have their manufacturing base in Singapore. Singapore’s pharmaceutical industry employs more than 24,000 people.

In 2019 the pharma industry accounted for 20% of the manufacturing sector which in turn represents about a fifth of Singapore’s gross domestic product. The manufacturers range from API’s to formulations and finished dosage forms, of simple generics to complex biologics and biosimilars.

Objectives:

  • To maintain and enhance the reputation and credibility of the pharmaceutical industry in Singapore and its contribution to public health and welfare.

  • To ensure the medicinal products are of the highest quality and are readily available for the prevention and treatment of human and animal ailments.

  • To co-operate with the Singapore government, and public bodies in Singapore to further economic development and prosperity of Singapore, with particular reference to the promotion of investment and the advancement of the Singapore Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • To promote and facilitate the pharmaceutical industry in Singapore, and between Singapore and foreign countries.

  • To undertake, coordinate, or encourage the conduct of research and studies which will serve to identify opportunities, projects or products for complementation in the pharmaceutical industries.
